Media Snacks will kill TV Dinners

Metacafe’s management team is just back from Benchmark’s internet conference. We spent a great couple of days meeting amazing entrepreneurs and listening to very interesting lectures all discussing Web 2.0, social sites, and the Long Tail. We had an interesting discussion with Chris Anderson, during which I speculated the rise of short internet videos is much more powerful then people think. 

I firmly believe that we are witnessing a major shift in the world’s media consumption habits. The paradigm of lean-back entertainment – lazy couch potatoes sofa-slouching over TV dinners, barely following a blaring sitcom while they unwind from their hectic day – this paradigm is being displaced by hordes of red-bull guzzling blackberry juggling young executives plugged 24/7, having their 4 minute 30 second power break leaning-forward over their flat screen, laptop, or 3rd generation mobile device, laser-focused on a 2 minute 30 second media snack while downing an espresso.
