Shineyfire.com was started in 2003 by Matt Gondek who wanted to start a site that had the funniest original content. He needed help so he asked me to join in on the project. I make everything run smooth and deal with all the back-end stuff on the site.
The newest staff members are Sean and Roadie. Sean is the funniest person Matt ever met in real life, and he also believes that Bigfoot is really God. Roadie used to be the roadie of a local Pittsburgh band, but he quit that and now helps out here.

For the past few years, making videos has been a hobby of mine. I liked upload them on sites like YouTube, but the limited exposure my videos got became discouraging.
Then I heard about Metacafe and their Producer Rewards program. I decided to upload some videos of my pets, and I was pleasantly surprised. Literally tens of thousands of people saw my work, and on top of that, I made a decent amount of money.
The thing that makes Metacafe unique and enjoyable is their distribution system. When I upload a video, it gets received and rated by a handful of people. Then, if my video is good enough, it gets distributed to the public.

We’ve been hearing tons about web 2.0 and viral videos. We’ve especially been hearing loads about those who have become famous, like the adorable girls who did the lip synced rendition to the Pixies’ “Hey” and people getting discovered via that other website.
Now Carson Daly is beginning a new TV show featuring viral videos. “User-generated content,” said Daly, “seems to have been everywhere. What we’re doing is creating a site that offers a little more focus. And also paying people, because everybody’s making these videos but nobody’s getting paid.”
I’m sorry, come again? Nobody’s getting paid? There are several sites out there paying people for their videos, and we are one of them.

I began scuba-diving as a hobby in 2001 and my appetite for it has only increased ever since. After a few basic courses, I moved on to advanced scuba diving course. I already had my video camera, so I thought it would be a great idea to share my underwater experiences with other people.
Thus since 2003 I have found myself filming all of my scuba diving adventures with basic camera equipment which gradually increased in quality.

Candy Vs Egg was created to test out the viral video waters and hopefully provide a few smiles to friends and strangers alike. A version of it has been featured on cubebreak.com (owned by cafe contributor Nalts) and a couple of other sites, but it got by far the most eyeballs through Metacafe and their unique distribution methods.
In the future I hope to use viral video content to drive traffic to www.tickingbrain.com (my production company’s website). Yes, believe it or not, despite the total lack of production values in Candy Vs egg, my background is film and television production (my NYU professors would be so proud!)

It would be fine if vlogs were just diary entries read to camera or ad hoc musings captured on film. But they’re not. In the space of a few short months vlogs have moved on from the amateur geeks with their first camcorder and an old edition of Windows Movie Maker and been hijacked by hi-tech, uber-geeks with multiple camera angles and more editing nous than Thelma Schoonmaker.
So it is with technology. The ‘good old days’ of each new breakthrough rarely last more than a couple of weeks before the pros move in and do everything better that you were probably never going to get around to doing.

This video was shot on stage 7 of the Susquehannock Trail Pro Rally (STPR). Stage 7 has been run in the opposite direction in previous years and this year the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) decided to run this stage backwards. Myself and a few friends heard about this change and decided that this would be a good place to watch, so we did. We went to this location about two hours early to make sure we got a good spot.
The rally sends a couple cars through each stage before the race cars to make a last check for obstacles. Well, this was the first wreck. I did not get it on video because it was so unexpected. When that happened, we knew we had a good spot. All together there were about 70 cars that went through here. Of them, there were 7 crashes. Those crashes, I edited out of the main video to make the one I posted on Metacafe.

Have you seen Sexy Beast? If you haven’t, you really should. I don’t like horror movies, but in Sexy Beast Sir Ben Kingsley plays one of the scariest monsters I have ever seen. Sir Ben has made many movies but he has never played a hard man like Don Logan before or since. Don is an unrelenting, foul-mouthed, psychopath sent to deliver a message. It’s a terrifying performance.

The idea for my video came from a character in a book that I was reading. He was sailing around the world and had trained his cat to use the toilet on the sailboat (true story). I race sailboats so this had extra significance to me. At the time, I had a girlfriend and a dog, so Wombat was next. He was a kitten when we got him, and I began training him right away. It took a long time (5 months) and did not happen without some resistance from the ex-girlfriend; I only have one bathroom. Anyone wanting to learn how to train their cat to do this should look online; it takes too many words to explain it here.

Hi everybody. My name is Alex Sayhi. I’m from France and I already uploaded a few videos of myself doing street acrobatics. It’s hard to know exactly when this art was created because everyone brings to this art form his definition and his own touch, which makes it become basically another style.
What I do is urban acrobatics and stunts. I’m training quite a lot to keep my body strong and to learn new moves. I started acrobatics 4 years ago and I did 5 years of different types of martial arts. I don’t do my moves only in the streets, because it would hurt my body after a while. I train in a gym and I also do my moves outside when I think I master them enough.
