Changes to Metacafe Producer Rewards® Program

Filed under: Content is Elvis, Metacafe News, Producer Rewards — Asaf Y @ 10:35 am

Hello everyone,

We are making some important changes to the Metacafe Producer Rewards® program.

Going forward, we will pay $2 for every 1,000 views a video accepted into the program receives in the United States via our web site or embedded player.

For videos already accepted into the program, views that occur outside the United States will no longer count toward payment.

Videos that are current or future Producer Rewards® candidates will still be evaluated for acceptance into the program once they have been viewed 20,000 times – regardless of where those views originate.

However, only those views that happened in the United States will count towards the first payment – which will still be paid once the earnings reach $100.  The sum of earnings from all of your accepted videos, though, count towards the $100 minimum.

These terms will apply to all Producer Rewards videos and candidate videos starting on November 1, 2008, including videos accepted into the Producer Rewards program prior to that date.

These changes will help us better align the program costs with our revenues, positioning Metacafe for long-term financial health and ultimately benefiting all stakeholders including our producer community, of which you are an important part.  Note that as we build our business and grow revenues in markets outside the United States, we may at some future point expand the Producer Rewards program to pay for views in those markets as well.

Note that the view counter shown on the web site will continue to represent worldwide views.  Over the coming months, we will be updating our systems so that U.S. views and the corresponding Producer Rewards earnings will appear in your Metacafe account payment log.  Thank you in advance for your patience as we update the site and our back-end systems to reflect these changes to the program.

If you object to the new terms, please email our Customer Support team and we will remove your Producer Rewards videos from the Metacafe website.  Your removal request email should include your Metacafe user name and should state that you would like to remove all of your Producer Rewards videos from the Metacafe website.  You may remove Producer Rewards candidate videos that have not been accepted into the program yourself by logging into your Metacafe account and removing that video from the Metacafe website.  If you wish to leave a candidate video on the Metacafe website, but want to remove it from Producer Rewards, you may email us at customersupport@metacafe.com.

We sincerely hope you will continue to submit your most innovative, creative, entertaining original short videos to Metacafe and our Producer Rewards program.  Detailed eligibility requirements for the program are available here.   We were proud to be one of the first companies to reward producers for their made-for-the-web work, and we believe the Producer Reward® program will continue to be rewarding for independent video creators.

As a reminder, the same basic parameters for the program are in place.  Videos should bring an original idea to life and tell a story that captures the viewer’s attention and engages the imagination.  The production value should be high staged, scripted, well-lit, with good audio.  We will continue to exercise discretion in accepting videos into the program and expect that as the short-form video entertainment industry continues to develop, the standard of quality will continually improve.

Detailed eligibility requirements for the Producer Rewards program are available here

New improvements to Wikicafe

Filed under: Metacafe News — Tim (Metacafe) @ 12:00 am

Hi everyone, I wanted to give you all an update on a number of improvements that we’ve made to Wikicafe in the past month:

Tagging Guidelines
* When you use the Tag Manager to edit a tag, you’ll notice a link to our “Taxonomy Guidelines,” which are some helpful tips and guidelines to use when tagging and categorizing your videos. Since it’s a Wiki document, you are all welcomed to and encouraged to add your thoughts and opinions to the page: http://wikicafe.metacafe.com/en/Metacafe:Taxonomy_guidelines

Tag Manager w/ Guidelines

What Can I Edit?
* More videos are now available to anonymous editors for editing.
* For Producer Rewards and Producer videos, we have locked titles and descriptions to protect the artist’s vision as much as possible. The lock will appear like so:

Title lock

Recent Changes
* View Edit and History – Recent Changes page now includes “View Edit” and “History” links for each edit. “View Edit” lets you know what specific change has been made to a video, tag, or page. “History” lets you see the edit history.

View Edit and History

* Filtering Options – You can now view Recent Changes using different filters. For example, you can view the list of changes made only by anonymous editors or see the latest reviewed videos.

You can access the Recent Changes page here: http://www.metacafe.com/recentchanges/

New Advanced Wiki skin
* We’ve added a new Metacafe skin for the Advanced Wiki (http://wikicafe.metacafe.com) to give it a more Metacafe feel. If you want to change the skin, go to the Advanced Wiki, click on the “Wiki preferences” link on the right and you should see a tab called “Skin”.

As always, let us know what you think of Wikicafe!
